2017 Founder's Award Recipients

Post date: Jan 3, 2018 6:19:21 AM

The Founder’s Award was created in 1981 by the National Order of the Arrow Committee to honor and recognize those Arrowmen who have given outstanding service to the lodge. The award is reserved for a member who demonstrates to his fellow Arrowmen that he memorializes in his everyday life the spirit of achievement as described by the Order’s founders, Dr. E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson. While the Vigil Honor is a high mark of distinction, the Founder’s Award is used to recognize those Arrowmen, youth and adult, who have impacted the Lodge in a positive and lasting way. This is a rare and distinguished honor presented to recognize the spirit of our Founders that is visible in worthy Arrowmen.

Congratulations to this year's Founders Award recipients!

Youth Recipient

Surya Sriram

Surya's extreme dedication and never ending motivation to exceed his assigned responsibilities as Lodge Vice Chief have set him apart from other Arrowmen. He has stepped up to lead the first ever Section Conclave hosted by Achpateuny Lodge in Tokyo, Japan. This willingness to serve his fellow Scouts from the Asia and Pacific Region has drawn the attention of the Lodge, as members rally behind his leadership to prepare for an amazing Section Conclave. Additionally, he has revamped the OA Troop Representative program, resulting in greater communications throughout the Lodge. He truly embodies the spirit of Cheerful Service.

Adult Recipient

Darrin Nicholson

Mr. Darrin Nicholson most definitely far exceeds his duties and responsibilities as a BSA professional. He simply does not stop giving of his time and energy to fully ensure that the young men of Achapteuny Lodge receive only the best experiences, allowing them to grow by following the Scouting trail. The many and varied occasions that he has stepped in to ensure the success of Achpateuny Lodge culminated in a National Leadership Seminar held in Japan, when he took the reins as Lodge Staff Adviser only days prior to the start. Without his attention to detail and herculean effort, the event would not have been a success for the 32 attendees from the Asia Pacific Region. He truly embodies the spirit of Cheerful Service.
