2019 OA Innovation Award Winner!

posted May 3, 2020, 10:09 AM by Lodge Adviser

Our Lodge has been selected as the recipient of the 2019 OA Innovation Award! This is one of only three National level Lodge Awards that are given out each year! We earned this award mainly due to the dedication shown by fundraising for, and executing, quality OA Ceremonies in hard to reach areas of our Council through the OA Expansion and Ceremonies Team Set Legacy Fundraiser. Youth from throughout our Council traveled to induct and train new Arrowmen so that the OA can thrive in remote places. The names of all youth and adult Arrowmen who led, created, fundraised, administered, traveled and in any way supported these efforts are too numerous to list and I would not want to leave anyone off the list, so, please accept a heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to all Achpateuny Lodge members who supported this historic effort.

We forward to the next amazing and innovative idea that our Lodge turns into reality!

Arrowmen are still able to earn their Ceremonies Team Flap Award! Attached is the requirement sheet and FAQ list. Please ensure you have your Chapter/Clan Adviser sign off and email it to adviser@oa803.org. If you wish to donate to the Ceremonies Legacy Fund by purchasing the full set (8 limited edition patches) of Ceremonies Legacy Flap Sets please email adviser@oa803.org for details.

posted Oct 16, 2019, 5:40 PM by Lodge Adviser

NOMINATE HERE

The Founder’s Award was created in 1981 by the National Order of the Arrow Committee to honor and recognize those Arrowmen who have given outstanding service to their lodge.  The award is reserved for a member who demonstrates to their fellow Arrowmen that they memorialize in their everyday life the spirit of achievement as described by the Order’s founders, Dr. E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson.

While the Vigil Honor is a high mark of distinction, the Founder’s Award is used to recognize those Arrowmen, youth and adult, who have impacted the Lodge in a positive and lasting way. This is a rare and distinguished honor presented to recognize the spirit of our Founders visible in worthy Arrowmen.

Nominations are given for exceptional and long-term service to Achpateuny Lodge. There can only be TWO Founder's Awards presented per year in Achpateuny Lodge.

Please provide as much information about the nominee as possible.  In this way the Awards Selection Committee can make a fair assessment of the contributions of the nominee to the Lodge.

To be eligible for the Founder’s Award an Arrowman must:

1.              Be registered in the Far East Council, BSA.

2.              Be a member in good standing of Achpateuny Lodge #803 (2019 dues paid).

In order for a nomination to be accepted it must:

1.              Be submitted on the current Google Forms link below.

2.              Be received no later than November 30, 2019.

NOMINATE HERE

Nominations are now open for the 2019 Vigil Honor.  The nomination deadline is midnight November 30, 2019.

Vigil Honor members are selected by a committee comprised of Vigil-ineligible youth members from across the council.  Most of these youth members probably don’t know your nominee so please elaborate on as much of your nominee's OA and Scouting-related information and activities as possible.

You may nominate multiple candidates but please remember that the Vigil Honor is meant for only the most active and deserving Brotherhood members who have demonstrated the OA principles of Brotherhood, Cheerfulness, and Service.

Access the online nomination form at Google Forms here: https://forms.gle/E56P6kE3EZ2BRCd77

Please report problems with the online form to the Lodge Adviser at adviser@oa803.org.

The 2019 Vigil Eligible List was sent to all current 2019 dues paid members and includes the Arrowmen eligible to be nominated for the Vigil Honor based on the below eligibility criteria of a member in good standing with Achpateuny Lodge #803 and a Brotherhood member for at least two years. If it turns out the nominee's registration is not with Achpateuny Lodge in the Far East Council we can not accept the nomination.

If you do not receive notification that your nomination has been received via Google Forms or email within 72 hours of submission please contact adviser@oa803.org.

Vigil Honor Nominations

The Vigil Honor is a high mark of distinction and recognition reserved for those Brothers who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position or office to one or more of the following: their lodge, the Order of the Arrow, Scouting or their Scout camp. Under no circumstances should tenure in Scouting or the Order of the Arrow be considered as reason enough for a Vigil Honor recommendation.

The Vigil Honor dates back to 1915 when our Founder, Dr. E. Urner Goodman, became the first Vigil Honor member.  The Vigil Honor is a recognition of one’s commitment to servant leadership.  Alertness to the needs of others is the mark of the Vigil Honor.

Please provide as much information about the nominee as possible.  In this way the Vigil Selection Committee can make a fair assessment of the contributions of the nominee to the Lodge, the OA, Scouting, or their Scout Camp.

To be eligible for the Vigil Honor an Arrowman must:

1.              Be registered in the Far East Council, BSA.

2.              Be a member in good standing of Achpateuny Lodge #803.

3.              Be a Brotherhood member for at least two years.

In order for a nomination to be accepted it must:

1.              Be submitted on the current Vigil Honor Nomination via Google Forms (link above).

Congratulations to this year's Founders Award recipients!

Youth Recipient

Sidney Killick

Sidney has served his fellow Arrowman since joining the Order of the Arrow. He immediately involved himself in ceremonies and as Chapter Leadership, he then filled a vacancy as the very first Lodge Treasurer from 2016-2017. Sidney was then elected and served as Lodge Chief from 2017 until 2019. Under his leadership the Lodge earned JTE Gold each yea and continued to expand membership throughout Southeast Asia. He also served as the Host Lodge Chief for the 2018 W6P Section Conclave, held for the very first time in Tokyo, Japan. He truly embodies the spirit of unselfish service to others!

Adult Recipient

Mr. John Harris Sr.

Mr. John Harris Sr. has had a profound impact on the Arrowman in Japan as Chapter Adviser His passion for Scouting and Service lead to his appointment as Associate Lodge Adviser. His willingness to take on challenges was displayed at the 2017 National Leadership Seminar hosted in Atsugi, Japan. Without his efforts as the event site coordinator, the youth and adults of Achpateuny Lodge would not have been able to experience national level training. He is an Arrowman who was truly chosen for what he will do in the future in service to the youth of the OA and Scouting!
